FAQ

1. Do I need a mental health care plan from my doctor?

No, You wouldn't need a mental health care plan from your doctor. We can book your appointment with/ without a doctor's referral. Regarding affordability, APT counselling charges less than the gap amount clients pay to see a psychologist.

2. How many counselling sessions would the client need to attend?

Initially, the client would benefit from attending regular sessions i.e. weekly for 2.5 to 3 months. Once the client starts to see noticeable progress. Clients can benefit from attending monthly/ bimonthly sessions depending on the severity of the issue and their therapy goals. Some clients prefer very few sessions, it all depends on the client's needs as well.

3. What to expect from your first counselling appointment?

Counselling is quite a personal process that involves self-reflection. Clients come up with their innermost thoughts and feelings. APT Counsellor would create a safe and judgement-free environment for clients to discuss their concerns, and issues freely. Generally, the first session is for clients to get to know the counsellor as well.  Depending on how clients would like to proceed further in the counselling sessions, Counsellor and client would work collaboratively to explore options/ tools to move forward towards therapy goals.

4. Does all client information remain confidential?
Yes, all the information gathered in the session will remain confidential unless  

  • When a client's information is subpoenaed by the court.

  • When a client is at risk of seriously harming themselves or someone else.

 

5. What do successful counselling sessions look like?

When clients start to feel better about themselves, they can notice that the situation around them is not the same. They may also become aware of themselves and others a bit more and in a way, they may be able to instil a sense of hope about the possible future.

6. What services does APT Counselling provide?

APT counselling provides in-person and telehealth counselling to teens and adults.  Entail of individual and couples therapy session.
